In Germany, 75 – 80% of all illnesses can be connected to malnutrition and lack of exercise. 1.9 million children, and therefore 11.9% of all school children (WHO 4/2013) are affected. In Germany alone, 15% of children and youths between the ages of 3 and 17 are overweight, 6.3% of those are classified as obese. In addition to the long-term effects and resulting ailments such as cardiovascular problems and Type II diabetes, patients also suffer from a lack of concentration and performance issues.
Children from disadvantaged families or with a migrational background are disproportionately affected.

„Gesunde Kids“ (Healthy Kids) is active nationwide with exemplary programs in kindergardens, schools and with public campaigns promoting conscious, healthy eating and exercise for children between 3 and 12 years.
In addition to exercise equipment, we would like to provide 6-seat strollers in order to promote nature exploration and mobility outdoors for small groups.

Bike Path Rest Area between Korbach and Bad Arolsen

Since 2010, the Rotary Club  Korbach – Bad Arolsen has promoted the improvement of the bike path infrastructure in the Waldeck region. The direct connection between the two club locations in Korbach and Bad Arolsen is of special interest. A 5 km long section of the bike path between the villages of Berndorf and Twiste will soon be reconstructed on a new trail, this primarily thanks to consistent urging of Rotary members. The Rotary Club Korbach – Bad Arolsen will build a new rest area at the boundary of Twistetal with benches, weather shelter as well as information boards. The first rest area was completed in 2011 just outside of Korbach and it continues to be a popular stop for residents and visitors alike.

It is our goal to complete the path and the new rest area by the second biking season of 2016. Incoming President Uwe Simon will also welcome the international Cycling Fellowship to Waldeck; and so, the Rotary Wheel will spin in two respects.
